In Spring of 2024, I decided to do a 3-Part Mixed Media Documentation on my paintings and the process of how it comes to be. This was done over several weeks and involves 3 Steps:

A Night’s Day (2024)
This piece of a mixed media piece including Nu-pastels, Gouache Paint, Charcoal and Oil Pastels. It depicts a colorful sunset with a cyberpunk-inspired ‘Black Sun’
This piece was painted in 2024 and was done while being recorded with a C100 Video Camera, which was provided by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Art Department. For 1 hour and 56 minutes, the C100 was used to record an downward angle of myself while I did the entire coloring and painting of the entire piece on a desk.
This piece is a study of how color can be used in different scenarios than our eyes are used to. Black Sun for a Sunset is a metaphor for how the end of the day is both the brightest and darkest moment in an eyes view. The colors of the mountains are used to show how color can be reflected in ways that do not make the most sense.
Overall, this piece was a piece I did to explore how far I can go with colors in relation to my internal emotions.
A Night’s Day Unfinished Copy (2024)
This is an unfinished copy I did of A Night’s Day following the recording of the original piece. I decided to leave multiple parts of this piece empty to look like the viewer is looking into the unfinished piece for the missing sections.
The purpose of this was to show the audience what the process of artwork looks prior to most viewer’s eyes. Artwork is not JUST the finished piece. It is the entire process. Yet most people only see the finished product. This is what leads into the entire art installation.
Jessica Morrow and Her Artwork Installation:
This is the final and biggest part of this case study. Jessica Morrow and Her Artwork is a 4D art installation which is to show my entire process of creating art.
The installation works in a 3 motion setup.
On the left side of a wall is the unfinished piece of A Night’s Day, on the right side is the finished A Night’s day. And in the middle is a sped up projected recording of the process of A Night’s Day. The original video is sped up using Adobe Premire to create a 4:46 minutes long video. It is sped up with no music and projected to the same area size on wall as the paper used on the pieces.
This artpiece is an installation to show the audience what the entire process of an artist’s work is, not just the finished product. Showing a sped up image with an indication of the time difference from original to the new edit shows how much time is taken for granted.
This installation was a mix of 4D and 2D artwork that was an oppurutnity to express myself and my art process itself to an audience. It was a fun project I did in college at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and overall was a real helping point to me better understanding color, form and presentation of artwork.
